Abstract

Kıbrıs ve Doğu Akdeniz araştırmaları güncelliğini yitirmeyen bir akademik çalışma alanıdır. Bu bağlamda Memlük Devleti-Kıbrıs ilişkileri söz konusu alanlardaki diğer çalışma konularının gerisinde kalmış gözükmektedir. Fatih Yahya Ayaz'ın Memlük-Kıbrıs İlişkileri: Kıbrıs’ta İlk Türk Hakimiyeti isimli eseri de yabancı ve Türkçe literatürdeki ilk çalışma olmamakla birlikte Türkçe alanyazındaki öncülü çalışmaların bıraktığı boşluğu tamamlamayı amaç edinmiştir. Eser, genel olarak Memlük tarihçilerinin rivayetleri üzerinden Memlük-Kıbrıs ilişkilerini betimlemiştir. Diğer yandan Kıbrıslı tarihçi Leontios Makhairas'ın Recital Concerning the Sweet Land of Cyprus adlı eseri de Memlük tarihçilerinin naklettiği bilgilerin karşılaştırılması için kullanılmıştır. Kitapta Memlüklerin Kıbrıs’ı fethi, fetih öncesi süreçler ve konunun anlaşılmasını kolaylaştıracak bağlam(Haçlı seferleri, Memlüklerde denizcilik gibi.) açıklanmış ve Memlük-Kıbrıs ilişkileri derli toplu bir biçimde okuyucuya aktarılmıştır.

Book Review: Fatih Yahya Ayaz, Memluk-Cyprus Relations: First Turkish Domination in Cyprus, TTK, Ankara 2016, 166 s., ISBN 978-975-16-3189-3.

Abstract

Cyprus and Eastern Mediterranean researchs are not an outdated field of academic study. In this context, The State of Mamluk-Cyprus relations appear to have lagging behind other working issues in this area. Fatih Yahya Ayaz's work on Mamluk-Cyprus relations is not the first study in foreign and Turkish literature, but it is expected to complete the gap left by its predecessor studies in the Turkish literature. In general, the work depicts Mamluk-Cyprus relations through the narratives of Mamluk historians. On the other hand, The Recital Concerning the Sweet Land of Cyprus by the Cypriot historian Leontios Makhairas is used to compare the information quoted from the Mamluk historians. In the book, the conquest of Cyprus by the Mamluks, the pre-conquest processes and the context to facilitate the understanding of the subject (such as crusades, naval in the Mamluks.) are explained and presented to the reader in a well-coordinated form.
