Kapu / Trakya Journal of Architecture and Design, published by Trakya University, Faculty of Architecture, is an open access international peer-reviewed scientific journal aiming at free circulation and dissemination of information. Starting from 2021, it will be published online, as an electronic journal, twice a year, in June and December. The publication language ​​of the journal is Turkish and English. It includes theory, design, planning and application based studies in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, interior architecture, city and regional planning. With an institutional approach in line with its regional goals, the journal also gives priority to matters of historical buildings, conservation and restoration, construction technologies, building materials and sustainability as well as studies related to Thrace, the Balkans and Europe.

The journal is open access, there is no charge for article submission, article processing and publication. Issues published online on the web page of the journal can be accessed free of charge.

Original research articles and review articles, case studies, technical reports and notes, letters to the editor, discussions, competition critiques and analysis studies etc. using quantitative and qualitative data are accepted for the publication in the journal.

Articles submitted for publication in the journal are reviewed and evaluated by using double-blind peer-review method after the editor's preliminary review. The duration of peer-review process and publication process lasts from 6 to 12 months. All the necessary forms for the articles can be obtained from the web page of the journal.

1. The publication language of the journal is English and Turkish (English articles will be given priority). Manuscripts will not be moved through the review process if the level of grammar is unacceptable.
2. The corresponding author should submit the article with Full Text, Title Page, and Transfer of Copyright.
3. The author should prepare the article in accordance with the publication principles and writing rules of the journal. Studies that do not comply with the writing rules or article template are not considered by the editorial board. The Editorial Board has the right to reject these articles without sending the referee assessment.
4. Our journal accepts the work that has plagiarism of under 20%. The editor may require changes or refuse the study, even if the proportion of similarity is below 20%.
5. During the article evaluation process of the KAPU /Trakya Journal of Architecture and Design, the principle of double-blind reviewing is applied, in which the reviewer(s) of the author(s) do not recognize the authors. Therefore, in the article file identity, institution and contact information of authors should not be included.
6. The author(s) should state that they received the approval of ethics committee for their study that requires data collection through quantitative or qualitative methods such as experiments, questionnaires, scales, interviews, and observations that require the decision of the ethics committee on the first or last page of the article or in the method section with the name of the ethics committee, the date and number of the decision and upload the document showing the ethics committee decision to the system within the application of the article.
7. By submitting a paper, The authors transfer copyright of the article to KAPU Trakya Journal of Architecture and Design.
8. Title page should contain the title of the paper, the author's name, the institutional affiliation, ORCID number and e-mail address of the corresponding author.
9. Manuscripts should be arranged as follows: Title- Abstract and Keywords – Introduction - Material and Methods – Results – Discussion and Conclusion - References.
10. Articles should ideally be no more than 25 typeset pages. The title should be no more than 20 words.
11. During submission for review, tables and figures can be embedded in the main document. Figures should have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

KAPU/ Trakya Journal of Architecture and Design has adopted the principle of publishing in accordance with the universal publishing rules. All components of the publication process; the publisher, editors, authors, reviewers and readers have to abide by the ethical principles in studies prepared within the framework of scientific rules. These ethical principles are prepared in accordance with the guidelines prepared by COPE/Committee on Publication Ethic (https://publicationethics.org/) and published in open access, and the regulations of Higher Education Institutions Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive (https://www.yok.gov.tr/Sayfalar/Corporate/legislation/scientific-arstirma-ve-etik yonetmeligi.aspx).

ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF AUTHORS

The author(s) should not submit an article which was previously published or has been submitted for publishing in another publication to the Journal of Architecture and Design at the same time.
The studies submitted by the author(s) must be original. The author(s) must correctly refer to and/or cite the sources they have used during the preparation of the article in line with ethical principles. In addition, it is the author's responsibility to get the copyright permission for visual materials when necessary.
Individuals who do not contribute to the content during the creation of the study should not be specified as authors. It should not be offered to change the order of author names, remove or add an author to an article that has already been submitted for publication.
The circumstances that may constitute a conflict of interest regarding the studies submitted for publication should be declared.
Information or raw data related to their articles may be requested from the author(s) during the evaluation process.
The author(s) must have a document showing that the permissions for the research/analysis or the consent of the participants have been obtained and that they have the right to use the collected data.
The author(s) has the obligation to contact and cooperate with the editor/editors board for information, correction or withdrawal processes if they notice an error in their study at the evaluation or early view stage.
The author(s) should state that they received the approval of ethics committee for their study that requires data collection through quantitative or qualitative methods such as experiments, questionnaires, scales, interviews, and observations that require the decision of the ethics committee on the first or last page of the article or in the method section with the name of the ethics committee, the date and number of the decision and upload the document showing the ethics committee decision to the system within the application of the article.
Papers presented at scientific meetings, by expanding their contents, can be proposed to be published as an article in Trakya Journal of Architecture and Design. If the article was presented before as a paper, thesis etc., if the study which the article is based on was supported by people/institutions or prepared by benefiting from project/research support, it should be stated in the "Acknowledgements and Annotations" section in the writing format of the journal.
Authors should avoid prejudice, general opinion, slang, dominant culture and/or cultural assumptions in their text.
Authors should respond to the reviewers' comments on time.


ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF EDITORS, ASSISTANT EDITORS AND FIELD EDITORS


Editors are impartial. They should strive to meet the knowledge, skill and experience requirements of reviewers, authors, researchers, practitioners and readers, to provide feedback when necessary, and to act according to the principles of clarity in matters that require correction and explanation during the publication process.
While deciding whether to publish the articles, editors are attentive to ensure that the articles are original and contribute to the scientific literature, readers, researchers and practitioners.
Editors evaluate the original value of the studies, their contribution to the field, the validity and reliability of the research method, the clarity of the narrative, and the purpose and scope of the journal.
Editors are taken to the preliminary evaluation stage by the editorial board of the submitted manuscripts, consider the reviewer's suggestions, and do not change the decisions made by the previous editor(s) unless necessary.
Editors apply the policies of double-blind reviewing and evaluation process, which are among the publication policies of the journal, keep the identities of the reviewers confidential, and ensure that the objective and timely evaluation process of each article is completed.
Editors provide descriptive and informative notice and feedback to authors.
The editors send the articles by considering the field of expertise of the editors and the reviewers, and support the impartial and independent evaluations.
Editors provide the information and guidance that reviewers will need during the evaluation phase.
Editors ensure that the publication process of the studies is completed in an independent and impartial manner by considering whether there is a conflict of interest or a unity of interest between the editors, the reviewers and the author(s) for the impartial evaluation of the article.
Editors ensure that the reviewer pool is inclusive and constantly improves it.
Editors block reviews that do not follow academic etiquette and are unscientific.
Editors ensure that the journal publication processes are operated in accordance with publication policies and guidelines, inform those in charge of the developments in publication policies, and prepare a training program when necessary.
Editors communicate effectively with everyone involved in the publication process, and hold meetings at regular intervals for the development of publication policies and the journal.
Editors are responsible for publishing every article published in the journal in accordance with journal publication policies and international standards.
Editors ensure the protection of personal data in the evaluated studies; they protect the individual data of authors, reviewers and readers.
Editors are responsible for ensuring the protection of human and animal rights in the evaluated studies. It is important to document the explicit consent of the participants in the studies, and is responsible for refusing the study when the participants of the study do not have permission for the experimental researches where ethical committee approval is required.
In case of complaints of misconduct, the editors conduct an objective investigation and share the relevant findings.
Editors should ensure that the judgments that contain errors, inconsistencies or misdirections are corrected.
Editors protect the intellectual property rights of the published articles and defend the rights of the journal and the author(s) in case of violation. In addition, they take the necessary measures to ensure that the content of the published articles does not violate the intellectual property rights of other publications.
Editors take into account the consistent criticisms of the studies published in the journal, and give the right to reply to the author(s) of the criticized articles.
Editors are responsible for examining complaints from authors, reviewers or readers and making necessary explanations.


ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF REVIEWERS
During the article evaluation process of the KAPU /Trakya Journal of Architecture and Design, the principle of double-blind reviewing is applied, in which the reviewer(s) of the author(s) do not recognize the authors. Reviewers cannot communicate directly with authors. Article evaluation forms, notes on the text and correction requests are forwarded to the author(s) via the journal management system. In this context, the reviewers who will evaluate the articles submitted to Trakya Architecture Journal should bear the following ethical responsibilities:

Reviewers should only accept to evaluate articles related to their field of expertise.
Reviewers must be impartial. They should make an objective and scientific evaluation confidentially.
Reviewers should destroy the studies they have reviewed after the evaluation process. However, in accordance with the confidentiality principle, they should only use them after they are published.
Reviewers should evaluate objectively only in relation to the content of the study. Nationality, gender, religious beliefs, political views and commercial concerns should not impair the impartiality of the assessment.
When the reviewers understand that there is a conflict of interest or unity of interest during the evaluation process, they should refuse to review the study and inform the editors.
Reviewers should provide constructive criticism in accordance with academic etiquette. Personal comments containing insults and hostility should be avoided.
Reviewers should evaluate the article for which they accepted the evaluation within the time limit.
Reviewers should inform the editor(s) of suspected ethical violations.

PUBLICATION POLICY
Trakya Journal of Architecture and Design uses the DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) / https://doaj.org/apply/transparency/) Open Access Journals Directory. The principles of transparency are taken as reference in scientific publishing. In accordance with the editorial policy, the content of the journal can be accessed online free of charge. Trakya Architecture Journal does not charge any product processing fee or article submission fee. Anyone can view the articles on the journal's web page and download them in PDF format.

It is a widespread-periodical publication. It is published twice a year.

After an article is uploaded to the Trakya Architecture Journal system, the evaluation process and duration;
1. Pre-control (4-6 weeks),
2. Evaluation (10-14 weeks)
3. The arrangement is carried out in 3 stages (4 weeks) and at least 24 weeks.
However, all these processes may vary depending on the intensity. Studies uploaded to the system can be withdrawn by the authors only during the pre-control processes.

Authors are responsible for the publications published in Trakya Architecture Journal. Any board of the journal is not responsible for the opinions and thoughts in the published articles.
Copyright
During the article submission stage, a publication agreement is signed between the author(s) and Trakya Architecture Journal. This agreement gives the copyright of the published article to the author(s) and transfers the publishing rights and all its privileges to Trakya Architecture Journal via "Copyright Transfer Form" in the journal system.
Notifying the Editor about the Cases Not Complying with the Ethical Principles
In case of a behavior that does not comply with the ethical principles regarding the editors, reviewers and authors in Trakya Architecture Journal, or in case of an unethical situation regarding a preliminary evaluation or published article in the evaluation process, it should be reported to the journal web address via e-mail.
Plagiarism Evaluation Process
Authors are responsible for the content of their work and must comply with the principles presented in the ethical responsibilities of the authors. Submitted works are checked for plagiarism (excluding references) with iThentcate® (Plagiarism Detection Software) and similar programs.The plagiarism of the article is expected to be below 20 %.
