BİYOLOJİ ÖĞRETMENİ ADAYLARININ MİKROSKOP KAVRAMINA İLİŞKİN ALGILARININ BELİRLENMESİ: BİR METAFOR ANALİZİ ÇALIŞMASI

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, biyoloji öğretmeni adaylarının mikroskop kavramına ilişkin sahip oldukları algıları metaforlar yardımıyla belirlemektir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu biyoloji öğretmenliği programında öğrenim gören toplam 46 öğretmen adayı oluşturmuştur. Araştırmada veri toplamak amacıyla biyoloji öğretmeni adaylarının mikroskop kavramına ilişkin sahip oldukları algılarını belirlemek için “metafor formu” hazırlanmıştır. Metafor formunda öğretmen adaylarından “Mikroskop…gibidir; Çünkü…” cümlesini tamamlamaları istenmiştir. Araştırmada, nitel araştırma yaklaşımlarından olgubilim deseni kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde ise; içerik analizi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesiyle, öğretmen adaylarının toplam 49 metafor ürettikleri görülmüştür. Üretilen bu metaforlar 4 farklı kategoride toplanmıştır. Biyoloji öğretmeni adaylarının mikroskoba ilişkin en çok “Kullanım işlevi açısından” kategorisinde metaforlar geliştirdikleri belirlenirken, bunu “Teknik yapısı/ Yapısal özelliği açısından”, “Duyuşsal açıdan” ve “İnsanlığa katkısı açısından” kategorileri izlemiştir. Öğretmen adaylarının en fazla ürettiği metaforlar Teleskop, Büyüteç, Dürbün ve Gözlük şeklinde sıralanmıştır. Mikroskop için genellikle cansız metaforlar kullanılmıştır.

Determination of the Preservice Biology Teachers’ Perceptions of Microscope: Example for Metaphor Analysis

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the metaphors do preservice biology teachers explain the perceptions regarding the concept of "microscope". This study was conducted with the participation of 46 preservice biology teachers from biology education at Faculty of Education. The metaphor form was created to determine the perceptions of preservice biology teachers’ regarding “microscope”. The research data were obtained by preservice biology teachers’ completing the sentence “Microscope is like…; because…“. The study was conducted through phenomenology design which was found among qualitative research approach. The data were analyzed by using content analysis. At the end of the analysis, it was observed that preservice biology teachers used 49 metaphors. These metaphors were classified under 4 categories. Preservice biology teachers used more metaphors in the category of “Based on its functions” than the other categories which were ordered as “Based on its technical structure/ Structural property”, “Based on affective factors”, and “Based on the contribution to people” according to their frequency. The most frequently pronounced metaphors were telescope, magnifying glass, binoculars and glasses. Preservice biology teachers mostly used inanimate metaphors for microscope
