Investigation Of The Effect Of Jigsaw Technique On Continuance Level Of Knowledge In Teaching Light And Sound Unit And Students’ Opinions About This Technique

Abstract

In this study, the review of the continuance of knowledge gained by using jigsaw technique which is a subtechnique of cooperative learning method in teaching light and sound unit in 6th grade science and technology lesson and students’ opinions about this technique have been researched. The study have been conducted with 54 students in total from 6-C and 6-D classes 1. Bu çalışma, ikinci yazarın yüksek lisans tezinden üretilmiştir ve çalışmanın bir kısmı Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Educational Sciences (ICES’11), North Cyprus’da sözlü bildiri olarak sunulmuştur.who receive education in the 2nd semester of 2009–2010 academic year in a Primary School in city center of Kastamonu. 6-D consisting of 27 students for the experimental group and 6-C consisting of 27 students for the control group have been chosen. Course presentations have been made according to jigsaw technique in experimental group, there was no intervention in the control group and teaching has been made adhering to the Ministry of Education programs. In the study, “Light and Sound Unit Achievement Test” and “Jigsaw Opinion Scale” have been used. When compared the results at the end of the 5 weeks study and the results after 16 weeks of the completion of study, it has been found that the knowledge learned with jigsaw technique is more permanent. Besides, jigsaw opinion scale has been applied to only experimental group students and in this scale, expression of view about this technique has been wanted from students. According to JOS, students expressed positive views about jigsaw technique
