Ethics Education According To One of The Educators of Ottoman Empire and Republican Period; Kazım Nami
Abstract
Documentary analysis has been used in the study. In the content of the study by using the
Ottoman Turkish book titled “Mekteplerde Ahlak Nasıl Telkin Edilmeli” by Kazım Nami. Kazım
Nami’s opinions and commends related to the moral education in primary and secondary schools
and high schools have been expressed and in this context Kazım Nami’s definition of morality, the
necessity of moral education, moral education in schools in his period, curriculum’s approach to
moral education, the factors which affect morality, the effect of scouting and guiding on morality,
teachers’ characteristics’ in moral cultivation and which the methods should be followed have
been mentioned. When we read the book, it has been understood that Kazım Nami has a positivist
approach to moral education and adopted an European moral perception. On the other hand,
he didn’t deny spiritual issues completely as he sometimes mentioned about ego training and
religion.
