The Effects of Curricula at Mevlana Public and Science Center on Students’ Science Process Skills and Attitudes Toward Science

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effects of curricula at Bornova Municipality Mevlana

Public and Science Center (BM-MPSC) which carried out as an alternative education project,

on students’ science process skills and attitudes toward science. In accordance with this

purpose, Science Club Curriculum design was formed and the emphasis was given to learning

through first-hand experience, gaining science process skills and developing positive attitudes

toward science in this process. In the study, quasi experimental design with pre-test post-test nonequivalent control group was applied. In this study, “Science Process Skills Test” and

“Scientific Attitude Scale” were used as data collection tools. According to the findings, after

the experimental process, there is a significant difference in science process skills within the

experimental group, while there is no significant difference in science process skills within

the control group. However, there is no significant difference in scientific attitudes within

experimental and control groups and between the two groups
