The Effects of Basketball Classes Taught Through Different Education Models on Psychomotor Achievement Skills of Students

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of basketball classes taught through

different education models on psychomotor achievement skills of students. The research

was designed as a real experiment model utilizing pre-test/post-test modal group approach.

The sample of the research was composed of 1st year male students of School of Physical

Education and Sport, Department of Physical Education Teaching at Gazi University in the

fall semesters of 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 academic years which were randomly chosen

among the students studying in the same academic year (ie. 30 participants were chosen from

each academic year ). The total number of student who participated in the study were 60 .The

students studying in the Department of Physical Education Teaching in the fall semester of

2013-2014 educational year were assigned as Modal 1 group and taught with Sports Education

Model and the 30 participants selected among the first year student’s of the fall semester

of 2014-2015 academic year in the same manner were assigned as Modal 2 group and taught

with Direct Instruction Model. Both groups were given the observations forms which cover all

the topics of the basketball course developed by Savaş (2014) based on the experts opinions in

order to identify the development of students in the psychomotor domains both at the beginning

and end of the study. The data collected were statistically evaluated by the use SPSS 15.0

package program with a significance level of 0.05 . The inter group development of Moda2 and

Modal 1 groups were determined by the of arithmetic means, standard deviation and paired

sample t-test.

The analyses of the independent groups were carried out employing arithmetic means,

standard deviation and independent groups t-test. As a result there were statistically significant

differences observed in favor of the modal 2 group in psychomotor domain achievement levels.
