Effectiveness of Reinforcements and Punishments Which Primary School Teachers Use in Lessons

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the reinforcements and punishments that primary school teachers use in lessons and examine the effectiveness according to the teachers’ opinions. Research is the case study one of the method of qualitative research methods. Research was carried out with 12 primary school teachers and 297 primary school children they teach in Erzurum Pasinler district in december 2014. Research data was collected by observation and interview and descriptive analysis was used in data analysis.As a result of the study,it was understood that financial reinforcements were not effective for the studets having good economic conditions and different reinforcements cause different reactions in different students according toindividual differences.,the effectiveness and goodness of punishments but not effective for the students having behavioral disorders and punisments’causing different reactions in different students. 10 to 12 teachers stated that the punishment is effective and useful. For students with behavioral disorders stated that punishment is effective. Different students different punishment is determined as a result of individual differences.
