The Investigation of Prospective Preschool Teachers’ Social Skills

Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the social skills of prospective preschool teachers in terms of different variables. Research was designed in accordance with the screening model which is based on quantitative research methods. The working group consisted of 158 prospective preschool teachers in Abant İzzet Baysal University, Department of Preschool Teaching. The “Personal Information Form” and “Social Skills Inventory” which was developed by Aydoğan and Özyürek (2016) were used as data collection tools. First of all, data was tested for normality and appropriate statistical techniques were used after the data examinations stage. Nonparametric tests ((Kruscal Wallis H Test and Mann Whitney U Test) were used for the analysis of the data which is not normally distributed. As a result of analysis it has been found that statistically significant differences on social skills scores of prospective preschool teachers according to class level. On the contrary, It was determined that there were no significant differences on prospective preschool teachers’ social skills in terms of academic achievement, parental education status and family income. The findings were discussed in light of the literature.
