The Evaluation of Music Curricula for Primary School for Educable Mentally Retarded Students in Terms of Teachers

Abstract

act This study’s primary purpose is to find out the overall condition of elementary music education for educable mentally retarded children by investigating the convenience and effectiveness of the elementary music curriculum for the above mentioned students in Turkey. The universe of this research is the special education and music teachers of music classes in primary schools for the mentally retarded students. The sample is the 58 teachers that are sellected from the schools in seven geographic regions of Turkey. A survey has been carried out to collect the data from the music and special education teachers of the educable mentally retarded students. The survey form has been sent to find out the teachers opinions about the music curriculum for the educable mentally retarded children. The data that has been gathered from the survey was analyzed statistically. The results of the research indicates that the students in the music classes might have trouble in recognising the musical instruments by their sounds, singing songs, playing music and having information about the music genres.
