The Effect of Cooperative Learning Method in the Teaching of GCD-LCM

Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the effectiveness of teaching the GCD-LCM through cooperative learning. In the study, the quasi-experimental model was used with experiment and control groups. The study samples were 9th grade students who studying a high school in Trabzon and include a total of 41 students: an experimental group of 20 students and a control group of 21 students. While the control group was exposed to traditional teaching methods, the experimental group to the jigsaw I in the cooperative learning method respectively. As a tool of data collection, the achievement test was used as a pre-test and post-test to experiment and control groups. Data were analyzed via t-test. The findings of the study revealed that teaching of GCD-LCM through cooperative learning method triggered mathematical achievement compared to teaching via the traditional method of teaching.
