Pre-service Teachers' Views on Reading-Writing and Motivation of the Wikipedia Experience: A Qualitative Case Study

Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to determine the attitudes and motivation levels of teacher candidates who experience creating content in the Vikipedi application from Web 2.0 tools. The study was conducted in the spring semester of the 2019-2020 academic year as part of the new Turkish literature course. Qualitative and quantitative data were used in the research and mixed method was adopted. “Personal Data Form“,” attitude scale for reading and writing activities “and” teaching material motivation scale “were used as data collection tools in the research. Candidates for teachers addressed the work they read by comparing the information contained in the content of the Vikipedi application from Web 2.0 tools, evaluating deficiencies or surpluses, making readings for it, and identifying deficiencies by writing (if not deleted on Wikipedia). For this purpose, the attitudes of teacher candidates towards reading determined as positive and high levels; writing were determined as positive and high levels of motivation. In the qualitative dimension of the study, teacher candidates expressed that they found the application different, useful for understanding the book more, developer, beautiful, attention-seeking and engaging, enjoyable, at times challenging
