Abstract
In this research, the effect of active listening training given to the fourth-grade students on their listening and reading comprehension was examined. Active listening training was given to students in the experimental group for eight weeks, two hours each week. The students in the control group were given materials including the content of active listening training and they were made to practice these materials for eight weeks, with two hours of practice per week, by doing traditional active listening practices. When the findings obtained from the research were analyzed, it was seen that active listening training positively contributed to the improvement of the fourth-grade students’ listening and reading comprehension levels. In addition to this, another finding obtained from the research was that the students’ listening comprehension achievement formed the prerequisite for the improvement in their reading comprehension achievement.
