DEVELOPING A SELF-EFFICACY SCALE FOR ENGLISH

Abstract

In the present study, it was aimed to develop a scale measuring High School Students’ beliefs of self-efficacy in English. Initially, the researchers examined the literature related with EFL self-efficacy and its scales and 64 draft items were written. This scale draft of which items were written under the own sub-scale reading, writing, listening and speaking was reviewed twice by the fourteen experts and 47 item draft form was generated. The draft form was answered by 296 students who registered at Anatolian high school at eleventh class. The explanatory factor analysis was performed and the 13 items were eliminated according to the factor loadings. The 34 items in the English Self-Efficacy Scale loaded between 0.42 and 0.69. Finally, the confirmatory factor analysis was done for testing the model of the four sub-dimensions. The fit indexes of the scale RMSEA=0.044 and SRMR=0.046 confirmed the model of related four sub-dimensions. The reliability Cronbach alpha of scale was found 0.97. Findings indicated that the scale is a valid and reliable measuring tool.

İngilizce İle İlgili Özyeterlik İnancı Ölçeğinin Geliştirilmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışmada lise öğrencilerinin İngilizce ile ilgili özyeterlik inançlarını belirlemeye yönelik bir ölçek geliştirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Öncelikle yabancı dil özyeterlik inancı ve ölçekleri ile ilgili alanyazın incelenerek 64 madde yazılmıştır. Her yeterliğe okuma, yazma, konuşma, dinleme ait önermeler kendi başlığı altında iki kez n=14 uzman kanısına sunulmuş ve 47 maddelik deneme formu hazırlanmıştır. Bu form Anadolu Liselerinin 11. sınıfında okuyan 296 öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Açıklayıcı faktör analizinde faktör yüküne bakılarak 13 madde elenmiştir. Ölçekte yer alan 34 maddeye ilişkin faktör yükleri 0.42 ile 0.69 arasında değişmektedir. Doğrulayıcı faktör analizi sonucu elde edilen karşılaştırmalı uyum indekslerinden RMSEA=0.044 ve SRMR=0.046 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Ölçümlerin Cronbach alfa güvenirlik katsayısı 0,97’dir. Elde edilen bulgular ölçeğin geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olduğunu göstermektedir
