THE EFFECT OF COMPUTER ASSISTED INSTRUCTION IN THE LEARNING OF URINARY SYSTEM AND DIGESTIVE SYSTEM UNITS FOR THE SCIENCE TEACHER CANDIDATES

Year 2006, Volume: 14 Issue: 2, 465 - 472, 01.10.2006

Abstract

The purpose of study is to compare the effect of computer assisted education on the students following science education program in digestion and urinary systems with the students learning the same unit with traditional teaching method. The study was designed as a queasy-experimental way with an experimental and a control groups taking pre and post achievement tests. The sample of study was 43 science teacher candidates in junior level during 2005-2006 academic year. The scale with the 50 multi-choice tests was employed to measure students’ achievement after applying validity and reliability studies Cronbach alfa 0.89 . To analyze the data, independent and paired t-tests were used to check the hypotheses of study as well as some descriptive statistics were given. In the experimental group, the computer program prepared with the “ToolBook” software assisted students to learn the units of digestion and urinary during 6 weeks study period. In the control group, the same units were taught with traditional methods. In the result, students on the computer assisted education group showed statistically higher achievement than those students in the control group taught with traditional methods.
