Zafer Anıtından Tarihi Mirasa: Altın Kapı'nın Kolektif Bellekteki Yolculuğu

Abstract

İstanbul gibi tarih boyunca farklı medeniyetlere ev sahipliği yapmış şehirlerde, kolektif bellek mekânsal bir boyut kazanarak kent kimliğinin önemli bir parçasını oluşturur. Bu bağlamda, şehirdeki anıtlar ve yapılar, sadece fiziksel varlıkları ile değil, aynı zamanda taşıdıkları sembolik anlamlar ve etrafında oluşan kültürel hafıza ile de kent kimliğine katkıda bulunurlar. İstanbul'un tarihi surları arasında yer alan Altın Kapı, bu türden bir yapıya örnek teşkil etmektedir. Yüzyıllar boyunca farklı medeniyetlerin egemenliğinde kalan Altın Kapı, geçirdiği işlevsel ve anlamsal dönüşümlerle İstanbul'un çok kültürlü ve çok katmanlı tarihinin önemli bir parçasını oluşturmaktadır. Roma İmparatorluğu döneminden inşa edildiği zamana kadar uzanan tarihi boyunca, Altın Kapı imparatorluk gücünün, zaferin, dini inancın ve mistik efsanelerin merkezi olmuştur. Bu çalışma kapsamında, Altın Kapı'nın İstanbul kent kimliğindeki yeri, tarihsel süreç içerisindeki işlevsel ve anlamsal dönüşümü ve nihayetinde kolektif bellekteki dönüşümünün incelenmesi hedeflenmiştir.

From Triumphal Arch to Historical Legacy: The Golden Gate's Journey in Collective Memory

Abstract

In cities like Istanbul, which have been home to different civilizations throughout history, collective memory takes on a spatial dimension and forms an important part of urban identity. In this context, monuments and buildings in the city contribute to the urban identity not only with their physical presence but also with the symbolic meanings they carry and the cultural memory formed around them. The Golden Gate, located among the historical city walls of Istanbul, is an example of such a structure. The Golden Gate, which has been under the sovereignty of different civilizations for centuries, constitutes an important part of Istanbul's multicultural and multilayered history with its functional and symbolic transformations. Throughout its history from the Roman Empire to the time of its construction, the Golden Gate has been the center of imperial power, victory, religious faith and mystical legends. Within the scope of this study, it is aimed to examine the place of the Golden Gate in Istanbul's urban identity, its functional and semantic transformation in the historical process and ultimately its transformation in collective memory.
