Abstract

Kent peyzajında - yüzey akışı,
sel riski, partikül kirlenmesi, karbon ayakizi gibi - pekçok çevresel zorluk
daha da güçleşmektedir. Endüstrileşme hareketiyle dramatik bir ivme kazanan
kentleşme, biyoçeşitlilik, biyo-jeo-kimyasal çevrimler, hidroloji, iklim
üzerinde güçlü bir stresördür. Bu bağlamda, kent ağaçları ve kent ormanları , kentsel
su, ısı, toprak ve kirlenme döngüleri üzerine olan pozitif etkileri dolayımında
değerlendirilebilir.

Kent ormanları,  kentlerdeki yoğun yapılaşmanın yüklenimlerini
ekolojik olarak geri-ödemek ve tekrar kazanmak için önemli olanaklar sunarlar.
Habitat parçalanması telafi edebilirler. Kentsel gri peyzajda yeşil yamalar/koridorlar
yaratabilirler. Kent sakini için rekreatif, düşünsel, zihinsel, ruhsal,
duygusal birçok psiko-sosyal yararlar sağlarlar; sosyal kaynaşmayı geliştirir,
dış mekan aktivitesini teşvik ederler.

Bu makalede, kent ormanlarının
sunduğu çok-yönlü ekolojik hizmetler ele alınarak, kentsel yeşil altyapının
günümüzde hedeflenen direşken-sürdürülebilir kentlerin kurulması yönünde
yapabileceği katkılar değerlendirilecektir.

Ecological Services Provided By Urban Forests

Abstract

Plenty of environmental challenges are aggravated
within the urban landscape such as stormwater runoff , flood risk, particulate
pollution , carbon footprint. Urbanization, which has gained a dramatic
acceleration by industrialization movement, is a powerful stressor on
biodiversity, bio-geo-chemical cycles, hydrology, climate. In this regard,
urban trees and forests can be evaluated by means of their positive effects on
urban water, temperature, earth and pollution cycles.

Urban forests present important opportunities in
order to pay-back and re-gain the undertakings of intensive construction. They
can compensate habitat fragmentation and create green patches/corridors within
the grey urban landscape. They provide a lot of psycho-social - recreative,
meditative, mental, spiritual, emotional - benefits for the urban dweller. They
develop social cohesion and promote outdoor activity.

In this paper, multifaceted ecological services
provided by urban forests will be taken into account and contributions that can
be put forth by the urban green infrastructure towards establishing resilient,
sustainable cities will be evaluated.
