The New Lanchester Strategy and System Dynamics: A Review of the Great Offensive

Abstract

Mathematical models with respect to the development of war strategies date back to WWII. The Lanchester strategy is one of these models that is still in use. The development of computer technologies has allowed analysis of the battle scenarios via computer programs. System dynamics programs have been utilized to model the battle scenarios. The purpose of this study is to discuss the Lanchester laws and the development process of the system dynamics and to compare the results of the model for frontal attack and real conditions of the Great Offensive by preparing a model via a Stella 9.1.4 program. The results gathered through Stella software showed that frontal attack will result in a defeat and model prepared according to Turkish offensive plan is compatible with the real situation.

Lanchester Stratejisi ve Sistem Dinamikleri: Büyük Taarruz Üzerinde İnceleme

Abstract

Savaş stratejilerinin geliştirilmesi ile ilgili matematiksel modeller II. Dünya Savaşı’ndan bile eskiye dayanmaktadır. Lanchester stratejisi bu modellerden birisidir ve günümüzde hâlen çalışmalarda dikkate alındığı görülmektedir. Bilgisayar teknolojilerinin gelişmesi de savaş senaryolarının bilgisayar programları ile analizine imkan sağlamıştır. Savaş senaryolarının modellenmesinde sistem dinamikleri programlarından da yararlanıldığı görülmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Lanchester kanunları ve sistem dinamiklerinin gelişim süreci hakkında bilgi vermek ve Büyük Taarruz için Stella 9.1.4 programı ile bir model hazırlayarak cephe taarruzunun sonuçları ile gerçek durum için geliştirilen modelin sonuçlarını karşılaştırmaktır. Stella yazılımı aracılığı ile elde edilen sonuçlar cephe taarruzunun yenilgi getireceğini, Türk taarruz planına göre hazırlanan modelin ise gerçekleşen durumla uyumlu olduğunu göstermektedir.
