Aim & Scope

The Black Sea is one of the rare basins in the world that has witnessed numerous political, social and cultural movements since its beginning. From the early ages; the tribes in the north of Rome and the Black Sea, then the Turkish states established in the geographies surrounding the Black Sea between the 13th and 20th centuries, the Ottoman Empire and Russia were counted among the forces affecting all kinds of events in the region. During the decline of the Ottoman Empire, especially after the opening of international maritime transport and trade after 1774, the geography surrounding the Black Sea became the area of reckoning of international actors in the 19th century. In this context, the Anglo-Russian struggle for influence in the region is worth explaining.

As one of the most important developments in the history of the region the process of the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, it has been a determinant in ensuring stability in international relations throughout the 20th century property.

With the end of the Cold War period, the region is again drawn into different struggles of influence. At the beginning of the last century discovering the international richness of the region and especially the desire of transfer energy sources of Central Asian Turkish states through the Black Sea basin, the Black Sea and therefore puts Turkey at the center of this strategic mature.

With its first issue published in the autumn of 2006, the Journal of Black Sea Studies (KİD) has reached a significant collection of the Black Sea basin with 27 issues published to date, leaving thirteen years behind. The journal that includes studies in history-based sociology, anthropology, economy, diplomacy, etc. on the country or region in the Black Sea basin, has reached the level to create a serious database in this field with the scientific articles produced by both our country and foreign scientists about the region and contributed to the filling of the gap in the field.

The Journal of the Black Sea Studies, published twice a year, Fall and Spring, to contribute to the academic world by Serander Publishing House that established in Trabzon in 1999 and signed more than a hundred scientific works about the Black Sea region, has become a sought, watched and referenced publication in the scientific community by carrying all the criteria that should be included in a scientific journal. It has long been an academic periodical published by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM and some national and international indexes.

The Journal of Black Sea Studies is a peer-reviewed academic journal and has been published twice a year, both in spring and fall, since 2006, both in print and electronically.

The Journal of the Black Sea Studies includes articles in Turkish and English on the Black Sea basin (countries on the Black Sea coast) in the fields of history, literature, linguistics, architecture, art history, archaeology and sociology.
