Abstract

Abstract

Orthorexia Nervosa can be expressed as a state of restriction in eating behavior due to the excessive importance given to health, which expresses a pathological obsession with healthy eating. Orthorexia Nervosa, which has similarities and differences with many psychological disorders in terms of exhibited symptoms, is not yet included in any diagnostic classification. Although studies on Orthorexia Nervosa are currently very new, there is increasing interest by researchers. Schema Therapy, which is one of the evidence-based psychotherapy approaches, is a psychotherapy model that states that the psychological problems faced by individuals are the basic emotional needs that are not met in the early stages of their lives. The Schema Therapy model focuses specifically on chronic life problems and patterns. In this study, it is aimed to compile the studies in the current literature on Orthorexia Nervosa and to evaluate Orthorexia Nervosa from the framework of Schema Therapy. Studies show that Orthorexia Nervosa has main points that distinguish it from other psychological disorders and that it should be considered as a separate psychological disorder. Studies to be conducted on Orthorexia Nervosa within the framework of the Schema Therapy model will be very important in terms of conducting an effective psychotherapy process for Orthorexia Nervosa.
