Abstract

Change is inevitable and coping with the new situation it creates causes people stress and anxiety. Undoubtedly, one of the most significant and worrying changes that humanity has faced in recent years is undoubtedly the change in climate. The new situation created by climate change, which is defined as a global problem, can cause ecological, psychological, social, and economic problems. The social work profession, which has historically idealized social justice and goodness for all people, can play an important role in dealing with the difficulties posed by climate change. In this context, the aim of the research is to examine the climate change anxiety levels of social work students in terms of some variables. Research data were collected with the “Climate Change Anxiety Scale” (IDKO). The sample of the study consists of 256 social work students reached by simple random sampling method in the research. Data analysis was done with the SPSS package program. Test and ANOVA test were used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the analyzes, it was understood that social work students have mid-level climate anxiety. The data showed that women have higher climate change anxiety than men. On the other hand, it was understood that the income perceptions of the participants and the status of taking courses related to climate change did not affect their climate anxiety levels. In line with the results of the research, attention should be paid to information and awareness-raising activities, especially for university students, on issues such as climate change and climate crisis, and necessary actions should be taken in this area.

Sosyal Hizmet Öğrencilerinin İklim Değişikliği Kaygı Durumlarının Çeşitli Değişkenler ile İncelenmesi

Year 2023, Issue: 12, 1216 - 1233, 26.09.2023
