The Effect of Anger Management Program on Anger Levels of High School Students

Abstract

Anger was a very important problem andsense of adolescents. Negative states sometimes causes anger. This state creates negativeeffects on adolescents. Objective: The purposeof this experimental study was to examine theeffectiveness of an anger management programbased on cognitive-behavioral techniques onthe anger levels of adolescents. Method: Participants in this study attended on vocational highschool located in Adana. There were 24 high school students who have high anger levels in the experimental and control groups. First group had 12 (6 girls, 6 boys), second group had 12 high school students (6 girls, 6 boys). Dependent variable was measured with the Trait Anger and Anger Expression Scale. The Scale was comprised 34 items. The study followed a split model that was experimental-control by pretestposttest and following test. Practice: The anger management program is a prevention program for anger of adolescents. For 10 weeks, one session per week, 90 minutes, anger management program was applied to the experimental group. Inventory was administered to experimental and control groups before and after the treatment and 12 weeks after treatment. Analysis of data were done with repeated measurement 2x3 ANOVA and Tukey q tests. Findings: The results of study shows: It was revealed that treatment group trained for anger management program has less anger scores and this difference even continues after wards the 12 weeks period.
