Burnout Syndrome and Depressive Symptoms in Nurses and Technicıans

Abstract

Objective: İn thıs study we aımed to ınvestıgate the level of depressive symptoms and Burnout Syndrome (BS) in nurses and technicıans vvorkıng in a general hospıtal Method: 41 nurses and 16 technıcıans who voluntereed to enter the study were ıncluded They were gıven Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and Beck Depressıon Inventory (BDI) Results- The results shovved that the mean depressıve symptoms severıty was below the crıtıcal cut off poınt and there were not dıfference between two occupatıonal groups in Terms of mean MBI subscale scores "Emotıonal exhautıon" subscale scores were at the upper level accordıng to the norms of Turkısh health vvorkers in nurses İn addıtıon, "desensıtızatıon", "emotıonal exhautıon" and "personal accomplıshment" subscale scores were hıgher in nurses havıng hıgher depressıve symptom scores "Emotıonal exhautıon" subscale scores were hıgher in technıcıans havıng hıgher depressıve symptom scores Conclusıon: İt was concluded that the depressıve symptom mean scores and MBI subscale mean scores were not dıfferent between two occupatıonal groups "Emotıonal exhautıon" subscale scores were "hıgh" level in nurses than thecnıcıan group when the MBI subscale scores were assessed categorıcally, and the dıfference betvveen the two occupatıonal groups was sıgnıfıcant statıstıcally İn addıtıon, our fındıngs were consıstent wıth the literatüre suggestıng that the BS ıs a dıfferent category than depressıon

HEMŞİRE VE TEKNİSYENLERDE TÜKENMİŞLİK SENDROMU VE DEPRESİF BELİRTİ DÜZEYİ

Öz

Amaç: Bu çalışmada bir genel hastanede çalışan hemşire ve teknisyenlerde Tükenmişlik Sendromu (TS) ve depresıf belirti düzeyinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır Yöntem: Çalışmaya, gonullu olarak katılan 41 hemşire ve 16 sağlık teknisyeni alınmıştır. Katılımcılara Maslach Tükenmişlik Ölçeği (MTO) ve Beck Depresyon Ölçeği (BDO) verilmiştir Bulgular: Her ıkı meslek grubunda depresıf belirti şiddet ortalamasının kritik kesme noktasının altında olduğu ve MTO alt ölçek puan ortalamaları açısından ıkı meslek grubu arasında bir fark olmadığı saptanmıştır MTO alt ölçek puan ortalamalarının Türkiye sağlık personeli normlarına göre hemşirelerde duygusal tükenme alanında "ust" sınırda yer aldığı saptanmıştır. Ayrıca, hemşire grubunda depresıf belirti şiddetinin artması ile "duyarsızlaşma", "duygusal tükenme" ve "bıreysel başarı" alt ölçek puanlarında artış olduğu saptanmıştır Teknisyen grubunda ise depresıf belirti şiddetinin artması ile "duygusal tükenme" alt ölçek puanında artış saptanmıştır Sonuç: Ikı meslek grubu arasında depresıf belirti düzeyi ve MTO alt ölçek puan ortalamaları açısından bir fark olmadığı saptanmıştır MTO puanları kategorik olarak değerlendirildiğinde, hemşirelerde "duygusal tükenme" alt ölçek puanının teknisyen grubuna göre "ust" sınırda olduğu ve ıkı grup arasındaki bu farkın anlamlı olduğu saptanmıştır Ayrıca bulgularımız, TS'nun depresyondan farklı bir durum olduğu yolundaki literatür bilgilen ile de uyumlu bulunmuştur
