Abstract

Dünyada sinemanın etki gücünün devam ettiğini gösteren ölçütlerden biri filmlerin elde ettiği gişe başarısı ise diğeri de film festivallerindeki eleştirel başarıdır. Ancak sinema tarihinin çeşitli kırılmalara sahne olduğu, bu kırılmaların en önemlilerinden bir tanesinin dünya savaşları olduğu bilinen bir gerçektir. Son kırılmanın da COVID-19 pandemisi olduğu iddia edilebilir. Pandemi sonrası sinema salonlarının eski cazibesini yitirmekte olan bir görünüm sergilemesi dikkati çekmektedir. Dünyanın saygın film festivallerindeki niteliğin düşüşüyle koşut giden seyircinin ilgisinin azlığı yakın zamanda gerçekleşen 44.İstanbul Film Festivali'ne de devam etmekte olan bir eğilimin yansıması olarak sirayet etmiştir. Artık ev ortamında film izleme alışkanlığının giderek sinema salonlarının yerini almaya çalıştığı bir çağda, kime sinema izleyicisi denileceği önemli bir sorundur.

Is Cinema on the Verge of Another Breakdown, or Has the Threshold Been Crossed Already? Thoughts on the 44th Istanbul Film Festival

Abstract

One of the criteria that shows that cinema continues to have an impact in the world is the box office success of the films, while the other is the critical success at film festivals. However, it is a known fact that the history of cinema has witnessed various ruptures, the most important of which are the world wars. It can be argued that the latest rupture is the COVID-19 pandemic. It is noteworthy that after the pandemic, movie theaters are losing their old charm. The lack of interest from the audience, which goes hand in hand with the decline in the quality of the world's prestigious film festivals, has also spread to the 44th Istanbul Film Festival, which recently took place, as a reflection of an ongoing trend. In an age where the habit of watching movies at home is increasingly trying to replace movie theaters, who can be called a moviegoer is an important issue.
