Deleuze’ün Zaman-İmgesi Bağlamında The Lighthouse Filmi Üzerine Bir Analiz

Abstract

Gilles Deleuze’ün sinema felsefesi, zamanı yalnızca hareketten türeyen bir sonuç olarak değil, doğrudan deneyimlenebilen bir düşünme biçimi olarak ele alır. Deleuze’ün zaman-imge kavramı, klasik sinemanın eyleme dayalı anlatı yapısının çözülmesiyle ortaya çıkar; algı, bellek ve düşünce, sinemanın temel işleyişini belirleyen yeni unsurlar hâline gelir. Bu çalışma, Robert Eggers’ın The Lighthouse (2019) filmini Deleuze’ün zaman-imge, kristal-imge ve herhangi-mekân kavramları doğrultusunda incelemektedir. Film, duyusal-motor şemanın çöktüğü bir yapı kurar; karakterler eylem üretemez, algı ve düşüncenin içinde sıkışan bilinçler hâline gelir. Eggers’ın siyah-beyaz görüntü estetiği, mekânı yalnızca bir arka plan olmaktan çıkarıp soyut bir düşünce alanına dönüştürmektedir. Bu mekân, Deleuze’ün modern sinemada tanımladığı herhangi-mekânın çağdaş bir karşılığıdır. The Lighthouse aynı zamanda gerçek ile sanalın, şimdiki zaman ile geçmişin, bilinç ile halüsinasyonun iç içe geçtiği bir kristal-imge evreni oluşturmaktadır. Filmin yarattığı bu alan, psikolojik gerilimin ötesine geçerek zamanın, algının ve aklın doğasına ilişkin felsefi bir sorgulamaya dönüşmektedir. Çalışmanın bulguları, The Lighthouse’un modern sinemada zamanın doğrudan temsiline ilişkin en dikkat çekici örneklerden biri olduğunu göstermektedir. Eggers’ın sinematografisi, Deleuze’ün düşünen sinema kavramını somut bir deneyime çevirir. Film, eylemin yerini düşünceye, anlatının yerini zamansal belirsizliğe bırakarak sinemanın felsefi potansiyelini yeniden görünür hale getirmektedir.

An Analysis of The Lighthouse in the Context of Deleuze’s Time-Image

Abstract

Gilles Deleuze’s philosophy of cinema conceives time not merely as a consequence of movement but as a directly experienceable mode of thought. The concept of the “time-image” emerges as classical cinema’s action-based narrative structure gives way to a cinematic regime in which perception, memory, and thought take precedence. This study examines Robert Eggers’s The Lighthouse (2019) through Deleuze’s concepts of the time-image, crystal-image, and any-space-whatever. The film represents a cinematic form in which the sensory-motor schema has completely collapsed, confining the characters not to action but to processes of perception and reflection, thereby creating a profound experience of time. Eggers’s black-and-white cinematography embodies Deleuze’s notion of the “any-space-whatever” in modern cinema, transforming space into an abstract field of thought. The Lighthouse constructs a crystal-image universe in which the real and the virtual, the past and the present, consciousness and hallucination coexist and merge. In this sense, the film is not merely a psychological thriller but a philosophical inquiry into the nature of time and reason. The findings of this study demonstrate that The Lighthouse stands as one of the strongest examples of the direct representation of time in modern cinema, with Eggers’s visual aesthetics materializing Deleuze’s concept of the thinking cinema. The film replaces action with thought and narrative with temporal indeterminacy, making cinema’s philosophical potential visible once again.
