Abstract

ABSTRACT
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the manipulation skills of individuals with dark triad personality traits in interpersonal relationships.
Materials and Method: The sample group of the study consisted of 1003 individuals residing in Istanbul. "Demographic Information Form", "Dark Triad Personality Scale" and "Manipulation in Interpersonal Relationships Scale" were administered to the participants online.
Results: The study included 1003 participants, 720 of whom were female and 283 of whom were male, between the ages of 18-65 living in Istanbul. A significant difference was found between the mean total scores of the Dark Triad Personality Scale according to the gender of the participants (t=-5.143; p=.000). There was a significant difference between the mean scores of the participants on the Manipulation in Human Relations Scale Victim Selection subscale according to their gender (t=-2.824; p=.005). There was a significant positive correlation between the participants' dark triad personality scores and manipulation in human relations (r=.421; p<.01), aggressive manipulation (r=.357; p<.01), emotional manipulation (r=.302; p<.01), victim selection (r=.356; p<.01), self-concealment (r=.393; p<.01) and strategy (r=.455; p<.01) scores at medium effect size.
Conclusion: The results of the study showed that manipulative skills can contribute to the development of dark triad personality. This study is directed towards understanding the proportion of people with dark triad personality traits who have manipulative traits.

Abstract

ÖZ
Amaç: Bu çalışmada; karanlık üçlü kişilik özelliklerine sahip bireylerin kişilerarası ilişkilerde manipülasyon becerilerinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Gereçler ve Yöntem: Araştırmanın örneklem grubunu, İstanbul ilinde ikamet eden 1003 kişi oluşturmaktadır. Katılımcılara online ortamda öz bildirime dayalı “Demografik Bilgi Formu”, “Karanlık Üçlü Kişilik Ölçeği” ile “İnsan İlişkilerinde Manipülasyon Ölçeği” uygulanmıştır.
Bulgular: Araştırmaya İstanbul ilinde yaşayan 18-65 yaş aralığındaki 720’si kadın, 283’ü erkek olmak üzere 1003 katılımcı dahil edilmiştir. Katılımcıların cinsiyetlerine göre Karanlık Üçlü Kişilik Ölçeğinden aldıkları toplam puan ortalamaları arasında anlamlı fark bulunmuştur (t=-5.143; p=.000). Katılımcıların cinsiyetlerine göre İnsan İlişkilerinde Manipülasyon Ölçeği Kurban Seçimi alt ölçeğinden aldıkları ortalama puanlar arasında anlamlı fark bulunmuştur (t=-2.824; p=.005). Katılımcıların karanlık üçlü kişilik puanları ile insan ilişkilerinde manipülasyon (r=.421; p<.01), saldırgan manipülasyon (r=.357; p<.01), duygusal manipülasyon (r=.302; p<.01), kurban seçimi (r=.356; p<.01), kendini gizleme (r=.393; p<.01) ve strateji (r=.455; p<.01) puanları arasında orta etki büyüklüğünde pozitif yönde anlamlı ilişki bulunmuştur.
Sonuç: Araştırmadan elde edilen sonuçlara bakıldığında manipülatif becerilerin karanlık üçlü kişilik gelişimine katkı sağlayabileceği bulunmuştur. Bu çalışma manipülatif özelliği bulunan karanlık üçlü kişilik özelliği olan kişilerin oranını anlamaya yönelmiştir.
