"Özel Alan - Kamusal Alan" Ayrımının Feminist Eleştirisi Çerçevesinde Kentsel Mekan

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı toplumsal cinsiyet eşitsizliğinin kentsel çevredeki yansımalarını ve kentsel yapılı çevrenin fiziksel-toplumsal tasarımı ile geleneksel toplumsal cinsiyet rollerinin sürdürülmesi arasındaki bağıntıyı ortaya koymaktır. Bu tartışmada, özel alan/ kamusal alan karşıtlığının özeksel bir yer tuttuğu düşünülmektedir. Dolayısıyla, öncelikle, geleneksel özel alan / kamusal alan ayrımının toplumsal cinsiyetçi bir ayrıma karşılık geldiği savunulmaktadır. Ardından, bu karşıtlıktaki "alan"ın, salt bir eğretileme ya da bir soyutlama olmadığı, kentsel "mekan"da karşılıklarını bulduğu öne sürülmektedir. Bu çerçevede, özel/ kamusal alanların toplumsal cinsiyetçi kodlanması ile kentsel mekanın toplumsal cinsiyetçi yapılanması arasında, gerek toplumsal cinsiyet rollerini simgeleştiren, gerekse bu rolleri yeniden üreten karşılıklı bir ilişki olduğu önermesi, çalışmanın temel izleğini oluşturmaktadır.

Urban Space and "Private - Public Space" Distinction: A Feminist Critique

Öz

The aim of this study is to demonstrate gender inequality in structures and processes of urban sphere and to highlight the link between the physical-social design of urban environment and maintaining of the traditional gender roles. Throughout the discussion, private/public space dichotomy as a gender-biased distinction is taken as an analytical priority. Thus, the term of "space" in this dichotomy is not only a metaphor but also an ensemble of concrete relations corresponding in the urban environment. Gender content of urban environment is exposed by proposing that there is a close connection between the gender-biased structuring of urba'n space and of "private / public" coding through which gender roles are sembolized and reproduced.
