Use of Cone Beam Computed Tomography in Endodontics
Abstract
Advances
in endodontic treatment have not only been continuing in the treatment
instruments and tools, but also in diagnosis and imaging methods. Although the
prevalence of the conventional imaging methods, advances in imaging technology
are contributing much to practice of endodontics. It has been possible to
eliminate the disadvantages, such as geometric and anatomic masking, caused by
two-dimensional images which are obtained from conventional imaging methods,
with devices that producing three-dimensional images as Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT). CBCT
can be used in evaluation of the root morphology, identification of the root
resorptions, diagnosis and treatment planning of the traumatic dental injuries,
examination of the periapical lesions, presurgical assessments and treatment
planning of dental anomalies in endodontics and the studies have pointed out
the precedence of CBCT by comparison with conventional imaging
methods.Taking place of usage of CBCT
within indication in modern endodontic practice might contribute to diagnosis,
treatment and post treatment protocols.
