Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of nocturnal enuresis and factors affecting nocturnal enuresis in 5-14 age group children registered in Kartal Dr. Lütfi Kırdar City Hospital Tuzla Family Care Center.
Material and Methods: In the study, a questionnaire was applied to the parents of children between the ages of 5-14 with the face-to-face interview method in Kartal Dr. Lütfi Kırdar City Hospital Tuzla Family Care Center between September-December 2019. The questionnaire consists of 2 parts, namely the part where the sociodemographic features are questioned, and the questionnaire form created according to the DSM V criteria which is used as a criterion in the diagnosis of enuresis, and there are 46 questions in total. In this way, a total of 186 families were surveyed. P value of 0.05 was considered significant.
Results: The frequency of nocturnal enuresis was found to be 11.8% (n=22). It was found that the incidence of nocturnal enuresis was 4.2 times more in positive family history, and 3.1 times more in 7 years old and younger children. Moreover, it was determined that it was 0.18 times less if the father had a job. It was determined that 22.7% of the children with enuresis nocturna had secondary enuresis and 13.6% of them were accompanied by encopresis. It was observed that the rate of children receiving treatment for enuresis remained at 27.3%.
Conclusion: The prevalence of nocturnal enuresis in the study area was similar to the studies conducted in our country, and it was observed that family history, age, and socioeconomic status of the family were associated with nocturnal enuresis. In addition, the frequence of applications to the doctor was low.
