Amerikan futbolunda farklı takımların taraftarları kurallarla, hakemlikle ve performans değerlendirmeyle ilgili genel meselelerde anlaşabilirler, çünkü bu tür meseleler herhangi bir özgül takıma destekten tefrik edilebilirdir. Ancak, akademide kuralların ve performans standartlarının özgül inançlar için destekten ayrılamaz olduğunu görürüz. Akademiya’da ideolojik hassaslıklar ve taahhütler (bağlılıklar-commitments) tüm akademik teşebbüsün (enterprise) nosyonlarıyla bağlı olmaya meyleder. Bu yüzden, birinin pozisyonunun nasıl hakem değerlendirmesine tabi tutulması (umpired) veya değerlendirilmesi gerektiğiyle birinin belli bir “takım” için desteği birbirinden ayrılabilir değildir.
