The emergence of Contemporary Metaphor Theory changes the perspective on metaphors. The classical understanding considers metaphors only as the art of making the expression lively and effective in literature and poetry. The development of studies examining the relationship between language and mind on the basis of cognitive semantics also changes the perspective on metaphors. Accordingly, the view that metaphors are effective not only in the literary field but also in everyday language becomes widespread. The fact that the concept and thought system are metaphorical gives structure to linguistic expressions and makes them more understandable. In conceptual metaphors, an abstract concept is understood through a concrete concept. The concrete concept is the source domain, and the abstract concept is the target domain. The source domain structures and shapes the target domain. The way concepts affect to thought and language system has a devise role in how the world of meaning will be shapped. For example, in the conceptual metaphor TIME IS MONEY, time is seen as a valuable commodity and a limited resource. Examples such as ‘don’t waste your time’, ‘I lost a lot of time’, ‘use your time productively’ basically contain different expressions of the same idea. In this way, a concept can be understood and structured through another concept. It is physical, physical and cultural experiences that give structure to metaphors. Therefore, while conceptual metaphors may be universal, some of them vary depending on language and culture. In this study, in the context of orientation and emotion on the basis of contemporary metaphor theory, the metophorical uses of concepts containing negative emotions such as pain, sadness and anger in Uzbek were determined and the extent to which these uses were similar to general conceptual metaphors was questioned. As a result of questioning, it was determined that contemporary metaphor theory is largely similar to universals schemas negative emotions, but there are also cultural differences.
