Iran Miniature Animation and Semiotic Analysis Example: Malek Khorshid

Abstract

Traditional miniature is an art form based on the depiction of manuscript books, a guide and document from the past. Today, it continues to be a source of inspiration in many fields. One of these fields is the art of animation. Animation, which is the work of animating and transferring still images to film by giving them a sense of motion, has been influenced by various cultures. When focusing on the fields of miniature and animation, Iranian art sheds light on the subject. The work that is the subject of the research is the movie Malek Khorshid, which blends animation and traditional miniature with cultural elements. The short film made by Iranian artist Ali Akbar Sadeghi in 1975 is one of the first examples of Iranian animation. In the movie, there are examples of stories from Firdavsi's Shahnameh and Iranian legends. Shahnameh, a work of epic poetry, has left an impact on different fields of art such as novels, stories, paintings and even cinema in Iranian literature. The aim of the research is to examine, interpret and present a new perspective with semiotic analysis in an animated film that contains patterns from Iranian miniatures. In the research, the literature review method was used to search for sources that could shed light on the subject, and current texts and visuals in electronic media were accessed. In the context of the findings, it is concluded that the work reveals a contemporary meaning and style of expression for today's audience, rather than its ties to ancient texts.

İRAN MİNYATÜR ANİMASYONU VE GÖSTERGEBİLİMSEL ANALİZ ÖRNEĞİ: MALEK KHORSHID

Abstract

Geleneksel minyatür, temeli el yazması kitaplarını tasvire dayanan, geçmişten gelen bir rehber ve belge niteliğinde bir sanat dalıdır. Günümüzde pek çok alanda ilham kaynağı olmaya devam etmektedir. Bu alanlardan birisi de animasyon sanatıdır. Hareketsiz görsellere hareket duygusunu vererek canlandırma ve filme aktarma işi olan animasyon, çeşitli kültürlerden etkilenmiştir. Minyatür ve animasyon alanlarına odaklanıldığında İran sanatı konuya ışık tutmaktadır. Araştırmaya konu olan eser, animasyon ile geleneksel minyatürün kültürel ögelerle harmanlandığı Malek Khorshid adlı filmdir. İranlı sanatçı Ali Akbar Sadeghi’nin 1975’te yaptığı kısa film, İran animasyonun ilk örneklerinden biridir. Filmde Firdevsi’nin Şehname adlı eserindeki hikâyelerden ve İran efsanelerinden örnekler mevcuttur. Destansal bir şiir eser olan Şehname, İran edebiyatında roman, hikâye, resim, hatta sinema gibi farklı sanat alanlarında etki bırakmıştır. Araştırmanın amacı, İran minyatürlerinden örüntüler barındıran animasyon filminde göstergebilimsel analiz ile inceleme yapmak, yorumlamak ve yeni bakış açısı sunmaktır. Araştırmada literatür tarama yöntemi kullanılarak konuya ışık tutabilecek kaynaklar taranmış, elektronik ortamdaki güncel metin ve görsellere ulaşılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular bağlamında eserin eski metinlerle olan bağlarından ziyade, günümüzdeki izleyiciye güncel bir anlam ve ifade tarzı ortaya çıkardığı sonucuna varılmıştır.
