Principles of the Reviewing Process

Reviewing Principles:
1. The journal is an online double-blind peer-reviewed academic publication. It publishes only original scientific studies.
2. In order for the articles to be published, they must not have been previously published elsewhere, accepted for publication or submitted simultaneously to any journal. Articles presented in scientific meetings such as symposiums and congresses but unpublished and studies produced from graduate theses are accepted for publication.
3. Republishing is the publication of the same article or substantially similar articles in more than one journal. The editor returns this type of article without review. After that, the editor may impose an embargo on the author attempting to republish for a certain period of time, explain this situation to the public in the journal in which the author has previously published, or apply all of these measures together.
4. The similarity rate of the manuscripts submitted to the journal should be below 20%. Before the manuscripts are included in the reviewing process, they are passed through the iThenticate program and a similarity report is obtained. Manuscripts with a similarity rate above 20% are rejected by the Editorial Board. Plagiarism, duplication, false authorship/denied authorship, research/data fabrication, article slicing, copyright infringement and concealment of conflict of interest are considered unethical behaviors. All manuscripts that do not comply with accepted ethical standards are removed from the publication.
5. The responsibility of the articles sent to the journal belongs to the authors. For this reason, the author/s must sign and scan the Copyright Notice Text, upload it to the system during the application and send it to the journal. The Copyright Notice Text can be accessed from the files title in the 'submit an article' button on the journal web page.

Reviewing Process:
1. Reviewers should adopt the double-blind peer review process and fulfill the requirements of this process.
2. Manuscripts submitted to the journal are reviewed by the editorial board in terms of compliance with journal principles.
3. Manuscripts approved by the Editorial Board are checked by the secretariat for spelling and language control. If there are parts that do not comply with the journal writing rules, the manuscript is sent to the author and he is asked to make corrections within 7 days.
4. Manuscripts that are found suitable for spell check are sent to two reviewers in the relevant field. Author information is not shared with reviewers in any way. The identity of the reviewer is kept confidential and the reviewer report is kept for five years.
5. Reviewers may reject the manuscript, or request corrections after the reviewing process. The reviewer arranges the reviewing report accordingly, sends the copy of the manuscript on which the parts requested to be corrected are marked and the reviewing report to the journal. Journal management is responsible for forwarding the correction request to the author. The author is responsible for making the corrections requested by reviewers within a month and sending the edited version of the manuscript to the journal. The author/s should take into account the criticisms and suggestions of reviewers and the editorial board. If there are issues that they do not agree with, they can object with their justifications.
6. If one of the reviewer reports is negative, the study is sent to the third reviewer or the editorial board makes the final decision.
7. In case of acceptance from two reviewers, the manscript is published in the following issue.
8. During the acceptance of the manuscript , it becomes visible in the “Accepted Articles” tab on the journal web page.

Suspected Ethical Violation
When readers notice a significant error or mistake in an article published in International Journal of Language and Translation Studies, or have any complaints about editorial content (plagiarism, duplicate articles, etc.), they can send an e-mail to selcuklotus@gmail.com. Applications are welcomed as it will provide an opportunity for improvement, and feedback is provided in a fast and constructive manner.
Reviewers should notify the Editor when they suspect research or publication misconduct. The editor is responsible for carrying out the necessary actions by following the COPE recommendations.
The Editor-in-Chief reviews the research article on the day it is sent, and if they think the manuscript is worthy of further consideration, they send it to the assistant editor for further review. For research articles, the assistant editor usually reads each article from beginning to end. We aim for an initial decision on all articles within two or three weeks, but usually the initial decision is made within a few days of submission. If we do not think that International Journal of Language and Translation Studies is the right journal for the study, we immediately notify the authors so that they can send their work elsewhere without delay. The usual reasons for rejection at this stage are insufficient originality and the subject being outside the scope of the journal.
The next step for your manuscript is our Editorial Board meeting. Members will read your article and discuss its importance, originality and scientific quality. We mainly focus on the research question to make editorial decisions for research articles. Even if the subject of the article is relevant to the scope of the journal, current and important, we can reject the article if there is no research question. Of course, the manuscript will be rejected if it has serious defects. Everyone attending the manuscript meeting is asked to declare relevant conflicting interests at the outset, and anyone with a significant conflicting interest either leaves the room or speaks last while the relevant article is being discussed (depending on the nature and scope of their interest).
If your manuscript is eligible for International Journal of Language and Translation Studies, the section editor will send your article to two external reviewers. Reviewers advise the editors, who will make the final decision. We ask reviewers to approve their reports and declare any conflicts of interest on the article we send them. The final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief after the external reviewing processes.
Some articles may also be viewed by the ethics editor of International Journal of Language and Translation Studies and third parties deemed appropriate by the editor, in cases where serious research misconduct is suspected.
For all articles, we aim to reach a final decision on publication within 6 to 8 weeks after submission. If we propose a publication subject to revision, we usually ask the authors to revise and upload their manuscripts to the system within the next month.
Accepted manuscripts are published at https://dergipark.org.tr/tr/pub/lotus as they are prepared. After publication, articles are selected for the next issue.
International Journal of Language and Translation Studies provides open access to articles as part of its commitment to readers and authors. All of our articles are freely available online.

Preliminary Review and Plagiarism Detection
The similarity rate of the studies submitted to the journal should be below 20%. Before the manuscripts are included in the reviewing process, they are passed through the iThenticate program and a similarity report is obtained. Section Editor Review
The study, which has passed the Preliminary Review and Plagiarism Detection phase, is examined by the relevant section editor in terms of problematic and academic language-style. This review will be completed in a maximum of 15 days.

Reviewing Process (Academic Evaluation)
The study, which passes the review of the section editor, is submitted to the review of at least two external reviewers who have a doctoral thesis, book or article on the subject. The reviewing process is carried out in secrecy within the framework of the double-blind reviewing practice. The reviewer is requested to either state his opinion and opinion on the study he has examined on the text or justify it with a minimum 150-word explanation on the online review form. If the author does not agree with the reviewer’s opinions, they are given the right to object and defend their opinions. Mutual communication is provided between the section editor, author and reviewer by maintaining confidentiality. If both reviewer reports are positive, the study is submitted to the Editorial Board with a proposal to evaluate its publication. If one of the two reviewers has a negative opinion, the study is sent to a third reviewer. Studies can be published with the positive decision of at least two reviewers. The publication of book and symposium evaluations and doctoral thesis abstracts is decided upon the reviewing of at least two internal reviewers (relevant section editors and/or editorial board members).

Correction Stage
If the reviewer wants correction in the text they have examined, the relevant reports are sent to the author and they are asked to correct his manuscript. The author makes the corrections with the "Track Changes"feature turned on in the Word program or indicates the changes in the text with red color.
