Stratonikeia Territoriumundan Bir Yerleşim: Koranza Geç Tunç Çağı’ndan Roma İmparatorluk Dönemi’ne Arkeolojik ve Epigrafik Veriler Işığında Yerleşimin Tarihsel Süreci

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, Stratonikeia territoryumunda yer alan ve bölgedeki yazıtlarda ismi demotik olarak en çok görülen merkezlerden biri olan Koranza’nın tarihsel süreci ele alınmıştır. Gerek geçmiş yıllarda yapılan çalışmalar gerekse 2018 yılından beri devam etmekte olan arkeolojik yüzey araştırmalarından elde edilen veriler dikkate alınarak yapılan değerlendirmeler neticesinde, Koranza’nın MÖ 2. bine kadar giden bir geçmişe sahip olduğu belirlenebilmiştir. Batı Anadolu’da yapılan çalışmalarda Ege coğrafyasındaki Miken kültürünün son evrelerinin yayılım alanı, Doğu Ege adaları ve Batı Anadolu’nun kıyı şeridi ile sınırlandırılmış iken, son yıllarda Çine-Tepecik Höyük’te tespit edilen Miken buluntuları, bu coğrafi sınırın Çine (Marsyas) bölgesini de kapsadığını ortaya koymuştur. Bizim bölgede yürüttüğümüz yüzey araştırmalarında bulunan GH IIIA ile GH IIIC dönemi arasına tarihlendirilen seramikler ise Miken seramiklerinin yayılım alanına Yatağan Ovası’nın da dahil edilmesi gerektiğini göstermiştir.
Koranza ismi farklı telaffuzları ile birlikte MÖ 4. yüzyılda görülmeye başlar. MÖ 3. yüzyılda Stratonikeia’nın kurulması ve bölgenin siyasi hakimi olmasına bağlı olarak Stratonikeia’nın demesi haline gelen Koranza, bu tarihten önce kendine bağlı demeleri olan ve bir arkhon tarafından idare edilen bağımsız bir merkezdir. En azından MÖ 4. yüzyıldan itibaren Artemis ve Apollon kült alanına ev sahipliği yapan Koranza’nın adı epigrafik verilerden anladığımız kadarıyla tanrıça Artemis ile bağlantılı bir yer adı olarak görülür. Artemis kültü Lagina’daki Hekate Tapınağı inşa edilene kadar bölgenin en önemli kültüdür. Hekate kültünün ön plana çıkmasının ardından eski önemini yitirmesine karşın, bölgeden ele geçen yazıtlar Roma İmparatorluk Dönemi içlerine kadar Artemis kültünün varlığını sürdürdüğünü göstermektedir.

A Settlement from the Stratonikeia Territorium: Koranza Historical Background of Settlement in the Light of Archaeological and Epigraphic Data from the Late Bronze Age to the Roman Imperial Period

Abstract

In this study, the historical process of Koranza, which is located in the territory of Stratoniceia, is discussed. The name Koranza is one of the most common centers seen as a demotic name in the inscriptions found in the region. As a result of both the studies carried out in the past years and the data obtained from the archaeological surveys that have been continuing since 2018, it has been determined that Koranza has a history dating back to the 2nd millennium BC. In the studies carried out in Western Anatolia, the spread of the last stages of the Mycenaean culture in the Aegean geography was limited to the Eastern Aegean islands and the coastline of Western Anatolia. However, the Mycenaean finds discovered in Çine-Tepecik Höyük in recent years have revealed that this geographical boundary also includes the Çine (Marsyas) region. Ceramics dated between the GH IIIA and GH IIIC periods found in the Yatağan surveys we conducted in the region showed that the Yatağan Plain should be included in the distribution area of Mycenaean ceramics.
The name Koranza, with its different pronunciations, begins to appear in the 4th century BC. While Koranza used to be an independent city with its own branches and ruled by an archon, it became the deme of Stratoniceia due to the establishment of Stratoniceia in the 3rd century BC and subsequently being the political ruler of the region. The name of Koranza, which has the sanctuary of Artemis and Apollo since at least the 4th century BC, is seen as a place name associated with the goddess Artemis, as we understand from the epigraphic data. The cult of Artemis was the most important cult of the region until the Temple of Hecate in Lagina was built. Although the cult of Artemis lost its importance after the cult of Hecate came to the fore, the inscriptions recovered from the region show that the cult of Artemis continued until the Roman Imperial Period.
