The Effect of Pulp Density on the Removal of Impurities from Kaolin Using Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans

Abstract

In this study, bioleaching method was used for kaolin sample taken from Kale Maden A.Ş.(Çan/
Çanakkale). Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans bacteria, used in bioleaching experiments, were obtained
from Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen (DSMZ). The effect of solids ratio on
iron removal from the kaolin sample was investigated. pH, bacteria quantity and Fe concentration were
measured in the experiments. Dissolution rates of Fe decreased with increasing solids ratio. The best
iron removal was obtained as 59.44% Fe2O3
at 1% solids ratio.

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, Kale Maden A.Ş. (Çan/Çanakkale)’den temin edilen kaolen numunesine biyoliç yöntemi
uygulanmıştır. Biyoliç deneylerinde Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen
(DSMZ) kültür koleksiyonundan temin edilen Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans kullanılmıştır. Deneysel
çalışmalarda katı-sıvı oranının demir giderimi işlemi üzerindeki etkileri araştırılmıştır. Deneyler
sırasında; pH, bakteri sayısı ve çözeltiye geçen Fe derişimi ölçülmüştür. Biyoliç deneylerinde katı
oranı arttıkça demir giderimi düşmektedir. En iyi demir giderimi %1 katı oranında %59,44 olarak elde
edilmiştir
