Investigating the Applicability of Methane Drainage in Coal Mining

Abstract

Over the past few decades, emissions of methane from coal mines have increased significantly because
of higher productivity and the trend towards recovery from deeper coal seams. With increasing coal
production and depth of coal mines, traditional ventilation methods are not always the most economical
methods of handling methane in the coal seam. The degasification methods, coupled with mine
ventilation, may be the most economical method of keeping methane concentrations low in many
mines. In this article, methane drainage methods are examined in detail and it is emphasized what
should be done at methane drainage decision phase.

Abstract

Geçtiğimiz yıllarda, madencilik sektöründeki ilerlemelere bağlı olarak verimliliğin artması ve daha derin
damarlara ulaşılmasıyla açığa çıkan metan miktarında da önemli bir artış gözlenmiştir. Artan kömür
üretimi ve derinlikle birlikte, geleneksel havalandırma sistemleri metanla başa çıkmakta ekonomik
olmamaktadır. Drenaj sistemleriyle eş zamanlı olarak yürütülen maden havalandırma çalışmaları,
çoğu madende metan konsantrasyonunu düşük tutmanın en ekonomik yöntemi olabilmektedir. Bu
makalede, metan drenajı yöntemleri detaylı bir şekilde incelenmiş ve drenaj kararı aşamasında neler
yapılması gerektiği üzerinde durulmuştur.
