Recent Developments on the Suppression of Respirable Dust Using Water Sprays

Abstract

Majority of the work-related diseases in Turkey can be attributed to dust oriented pulmonary diseases, namely pneumoconiosis. The purpose of this paper is to present the recent state in our understanding about the airborne dust and the water sprays utilized to suppress it in underground mines. For this purpose, a detailed characterization of airborne spray droplets and dust particles in air is presented along with the answer to why the surface active agents have not provided a satisfactory increase in dust suppression efficiency. The results are extended to current practices in Turkish underground mines and the necessary courses of action to increase the dust suppression efficiency in light of the above studies are outlined

Abstract

Türkiye'de görülen meslek hastalıklarının çoğunu tozun solunmasından kaynaklanan pnömokonyoz oluşturmaktadır. Bu yazının amacı, yeraltı ocaklarında işçi sağlığı açısından sakıncalı olan havada asılı tozların, su spreyleri kullanılarak bastırılması konusunda gelinen aşamayı sunmaktır. Bu amaçla, havada asılı toz ve su damlalanyla yapılan detaylı çalışmalar ışığında, sprey suyuna katılan yüzey aktif maddelerin istenen verim artışım sağlayamama nedenleri ele alınmakta ve su spreylerinin Türkiye'deki maden ocaklarında kullanım olanakları tartışılmaktadır
