An Evaluation of the Entrainment Modelling Approaches in Flotation

Abstract

There are two important mechanisms for the recovery of particles in flotation: True flotation and
entrainment. True flotation deals with only hydrophobic mineral recovery. Entrainment has an
effective role on the recovery of not only hydrophilic but also hydrophobic mineral recoveries.
Hydrophilic entrainment could be modelled by relating water recovery with solids recovery.
However, direct measurement of the hydrophobic entrainment is not possible. By using different
approaches, several mathematical models were developed for the determination of hydrophobic
entrainment.
In this paper, entrainment models and related approaches were presented. Amounts of entrainment
were calculated from Warren's (1985), Ross's (1990) and Gülsoy's (1995) entrainment models by
using a set of semi batch flotation test results and these were compared with each other.

Abstract

Flotasyonda, malzemelerin konsantreye taşınmalarında önemli iki mekanizma mevcuttur: Gerçek
flotasyon ve su ile taşınım. Gerçek flotasyon sadece hidrofobik tanelerin kazammıyla ilgilidir.
Fakat su ile taşınım hem hidrofılik hem de hidrofobik minerallerin kazanımdan üzerinde önemli
etkiye sahiptir.
Hidrofilik minerallerin konsantreye taşmımları konsantrede kazanılan su miktarı ile doğrudan
ilişkilendirilerek modellenebilmektedir. Fakat, hidrofobik minerallerin ne kadarının su ile
taşındığının ölçülmesi mümkün değildir. Hidrofobik minerallerin su ile taşmımınm belirlenmesi
için farklı yaklaşımlar kullanılarak çeşitli modeller geliştirilmiştir.
Bu makalede su ile taşınım modelleri ve ilgili yaklaşımlar sunulmuştur. Warren (1985), Ross
(1990) ve Gülsoy (1995) tarafından önerilen modeller kullanılarak bir grup yarı kesikli flotasyon
test verisi için su ile taşınım hesaplanmış ve bunların birbirleriyle kıyaslamaları yapılmıştır
