Relationship Between Education and Health in Turkey: An Analysis in the Light of National Data

Abstract

Two of the most fundamental elements of social institution are education and health. This relationship between education and health is studied mainly by researchers from the fields of medicine, economics or sociology. Sharing the observations of this relationship by researchers from the field of education is important in terms of providing new perspectives. The aim of this study is to reveal the relationship between education and health in light of the data obtained from national official statistics. This research was designed as a descriptive research and descriptive document analysis method was used. This research included 9 studies with data on the national level, containing statistical data showing the change of any health variable according to the level of education. The total sample size of the studies included was 521900 people and 12160 households. Based on the literature, the findings related to the data obtained were evaluated under the sub-headings of “Satisfaction with Personal Health”, “Physical Health”, “Mental Health” and “Behavioral Health”. When the findings are considered in a holistic manner, it is seen that there is a positive relationship between education and health at Türkiye. According to this; Graduates of higher education levels are more satisfied with their health, they live in a healthier way, physically, mentally and behaviorally.
