ARŞİV BELGELERİNE GÖRE KANUNİ SULTAN SÜLEYMAN’A SUNULAN HALK ŞİİRLERİ
Abstract

FOLK POEMS PRESENTED TO SULTAN SULEIMAN THE MAGNIFICENT ACCORDING TO ARCHIVAL DOCUMENTS
Abstract
Turkish folk literature, which dates back as far as the Turkish nation itself, and the literary works associated with this literature are generally elements of oral culture, but there are also many examples that have survived to the present day in written form. In particular, texts whose authors are known and which are referred to as the literature of the aşık (troubadour) have reached us today, primarily in the form of cönks (collections of poems) and other sources of the period. However, texts from the 16th century, which can be considered early in the formation of the literature of the aşık, are limited. Unfortunately, very few examples of folk literature from this period, which marked the peak of the Ottoman Empire's political and administrative development, have survived to the present day. There are many reasons for this. Studies conducted to date indicate that the number of aşık and/or ozan(ballad) from this period, considered the early period, are also quite limited. This study, as a result of our studies on the Ottoman Archives within the Turkish State Archives, aims to reveal the folk poems dedicated to Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, perhaps the most important sultan of not only the 16th century but of the entire Ottoman Empire, and his poets. These five minstrels, known by the epithets Keremoglu, Dervish ‘Ali, Saka Dede, Kul İdris, and Hacioglu, whose names and poems have not been found in any source to date, presented poems in hece syballic verse to praise the sultan of the period and request his generosity, and these poems have been recorded in the archives. Our study aims to present these poems, briefly touch upon their content to highlight their importance, and thus contribute new names and poems to Turkish folk literature research.
