Hungarian Folk-Dance

Abstract

In the long course of Hungarian history, culture has been a decisive point, that makes a difference as for the question of nationality. Hungarians had not spent the long centuries while migrating on the steppe area before they found their final homeland in the Carpathean Basin. It was especially the Turkic influence that exerted a major effect on Hungarian culture. Language has been widely researched from this point of view unlike other fields like religion, folklore, music, tradition, etc. Hungarian folk-dance has been a very important tool of self identity as for the questions of nationalities. The way people have their mother tongue to express their thoughts, they have folk-dance to express their feelings. Unlike language folk-dance is available for anyone without being a born national, because it has a universal capacity for expression. Hungarian Dance House was first held in Budapest for the first time in 1972 as kind of a protest against the Soviet rule, as kind of a delightful wish for freedom, as kind of a highly valued way of entertainment, that globalisation can not influence. It was not by chance that Unesco considered the dance house teaching method as a valuable knowledge and this is why it got to the list of intangible world heritage.
