Some Popular and Superstitious Beliefs of Pre-Islamic Arabs

Abstract

The article deals with the superstitions and obsessive reverences for some omens excited in Pre-Islamic Arabian society. It demonstrates that due to the peculiarities of the desert life i. e. perils hovered over the inhabitants of desert areas, there in Arabia appeared some superstitions connected with the natural phenomena, plant and animal life and some attempts were made to predict obscure future. The main attention is directed to the superstitions on birds and related to them foretelling, so-called Iyafat.
