Investigation of Temperature and Forces on Drilling GGG40 Materials with Carbide Drills on CNC Turning Machine Tools
Abstract
In this study, drilling experiments were carried out on the CNC turning machine tools. In the experiments, GGG40 material was drilled TiAlN coated and uncoated carbide drills that was Ø14 mm and had internal cooling channels. The drilling force (Fz) and moment (Mz) that were measured with a dynamometer. Moreover, the temperature was measured using a thermocouple of Ø1 mm K type. The thermocouple was positioned at the drill bit by passing through the internal cooling channels of the carbide drill. Drilling experiments were performed by using 3 different cutting speeds and 3 different feed rates. Experimental results show that increasing of the feed rate goes up drilling force and moment. But, increasing of the cutting speed goes down drilling force and moment. For all that, the temperature decreases with increasing of the feed rate, and temperature steps up due to increasing of the cutting speed.
