Abstract
Occupational health and safety regulations are planned work carried out in order to prevent the danger and risks which are arising from various causes that may harm the health of the person and others while working in the work places of the employees.
Since nurses who work in health facilities are more concerned with patients, they are more likely to encounter occupational risks and hazards than other employees. Nurses are exposed to physical, chemical, biological, psychological and ergonomic risks and hazards resulting from work environment during work. The Health Ministry must take the necessary precautions to ensure the health and safety of all health care employees and to put the sanctions in practice for them.
In this study, it was aimed to emphasize the importance of the regulation of providing and strengthening occupational health and safety of nurses and to determine the perception levels of nurses about occupational health and safety.
The universe of this research are composed of 320 nurses working in the Hospital of Research and Practice of Süleyman Demirel University in July 2017. In this study, a questionnaire developed to determine the Occupational Safety scale and demographic characteristics and occupational characteristics of nurses was used in order to determine the perception levels of occupational health and safety.
According to the results of the research, regarding the scores of occupational health and safety perception level of the nurses, the occupational health and safety perception was high in the hospital where the research have been detecdet. It was found that the security procedures of the nurses were more realistic, when complying with suggestions of the hospital management, performing better job security checks, will be able to work safer if their colleagues do support their safe behavior
