Investigation of the effect of paulownia (Paulownia fortunei) wood on the baglama sound box properties
Abstract
This study investigated the use of paulownia (Paulownia fortunei) wood, a different type of wood commonly used in baglama construction, in the construction of the baglama sound box (boat). Sound analysis of a baglama made of paulownia wood revealed that the peaks of the F1 envelope at the moment of resonance were measured as -58.89, -77.47, and -79.53 dB on the bottom, middle, and top strings, respectively. Furthermore, the wave amplitude onset times were determined to be 8, 5, and 7 ms on the bottom, middle, and top strings, respectively. According to the results of 3D Fourier Spectrum analysis of the tone signal on the same string, it was determined that the fundamental frequency nl of the bottom, middle, and top strings had a quite strong signal structure, but the subsequent n2 and n3 peaks had lower amplitudes than the initial signal. In the 3D Fourier Spectrum analysis of the middle strings signal, it was determined that n4 had a higher amplitude than n1 and n2. The sound analyses obtained in this study indicated that paulownia wood could be used as an alternative to the woods of traditional tree species used in the construction of the baglama sound box.
