Some Socio-Cultural Features of the Students Who Choose Social Studies Teachers Departments of the Universities
Abstract
There are some factors which effect teacher candidates’ interests. Educators believe that in order to successful in their life teacher candidates to be educated according to their
interests. Although university’s entrance examination system has changed in light of secondary school curriculum which requires students to choice equivalent university program, Achievement scores of ninth grade students effect their university’s entrance examination. In this research, survey technique was used through questionnaires. Sample selected randomly which includes Social Studies Teacher Training Programs of education faculties in University of Marmara, University of Mehmet Akif Ersoy, University of Celal Bayar and Universitiy of Ondokuzmayıs. Data were analysed with software and findings were interpreted according to this. From the research findings some suggestions were also developed for characteristics of socio-cultural background of teacher candidates.
