Examination of the Relationship between Hopelessness and Family Relations of High School Students according to Some Variables

Abstract

The aim of this research is to explore the relationship between hopelessness and family
relations of high school students. The sample of the study is consisted of public and private
high school students in Anatolian side of İstanbul city, at the 2006-2007 academic year.
The sample has 353 high school students of 167 females and 186 males from 10th and 11th
class. The questionnaire which is developed by the researcher to collect information about
sociodemographic features of the students, ‘Beck Hopelessness Scale’(HS), ‘McMaster
Family Assessment Device’ are used as the type of this survey study. The results of the study show that there is not significant correlation between hopelessness of the high school

students and their family relations. Besides, the hopelessness scores of the students of the
public schools higher than private school’.

ORTAÖĞRETİM ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN UMUTSUZLUK DURUMLARI VE AİLE İŞLEVSELLİĞİ İLİŞKİSİNİN BAZI DEĞİŞKENLERE GÖRE İNCELENMESİ

Abstract

Bu araştırma ile, ortaöğretim öğrencilerinin umutsuzluk durumları ile algıladıkları aile işlevselliği arasındaki ilişkinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini, 2006-2007 öğretim yılında İstanbul ili Anadolu yakasında, resmi ve özel lise 10 ve 11. sınıflarında okumakta olan 167’ si kız, 186’ sı ise erkek olmak üzere, tesadüfi yöntemle seçilmiş toplam 353 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır.Tarama modelindeki araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak öğrencilerin sosyo-demografik özellikleri hakkında bilgi toplamak için araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilmiş ‘Kişisel Bilgi Formu’ nun yanında ‘Beck Umutsuzluk Ölçeği’ ile ‘Aile Değerlendirme Ölçeği’ kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, öğrencilerin umutsuzluk durumlarıyla, algılanan aile işlevsellikleri arasında anlamlı bir ilişki görülmezken, devlet okulunda okuyan öğrencilerin, özel okulda okuyan öğrencilere göre umutsuzluk düzeylerinin daha yüksek olduğu görülmüştür.
