Pre-Service Turkish Language and Literature Teachers Evaluations Related to Their Content Knowledge and Lessons of Field Education
Abstract
In this study, it is aimed at finding out whether the candidates of Turkish
Language and Literature Teachers are educated in their university instruction upon the
courses which they will teach in high schools, how far they see themselves sufficient in
their fields and their suggestions about B.A courses. With regard to this aim, teacher
candidates are given a questionnaire consisting questions about the high school they
graduated, which lessons they took in their 3.5 years university instruction that they will
teach in high school, how far they see themselves sufficient upon those mentioned
lessons, the lessons seen as the most useful and the most useless among the ones they will
teach and the lessons they will suggest. The frequency and percentage of the
questionnaires are obtained with the help of Microsoft Excel 2003. The data obtained is
interpreted together with scanning the related studies and suggestions are proposed.
According to the results of the study, it is brought to light that the teacher candidates have
never been taught on the lessons the techniques of fast reading, body language, and the art
of writing; and very few of them have been taught on the lessons which are crucial from
the methodological point of view such as diction, computer, and drama. In the light of
these findings, some suggestions are presented for the Programs of Turkish Language and
Literature Teaching.
Key words: Candidate of Turkish Language and Literature Teacher, high school curriculum, B.A program, knowledge of field, proficiency.
