Globalization as A Social and Economic Condition: New Dilemmas-New Possibilities in Education
Abstract
The concept of globalization which enmarks our age and debates it has bring about is
characterized by a plea of transformations in social and economic sphere. One of the
fundamental conveyers of globalization and new life styles and thinking styles mentioned
within the concept of globalization is the educational system. Given this point, education is
one of the fields in which globalization debates broadly take place both because it is one of the
institutions mostly affected from the politics of globalization and it is seen as an organ
generalizing the politics of globalization. By this study the concept of globalization and its
reflections on education is examined in terms of social and economic factors, the changes in
the understanding of modernism by means of globalization and new line of thought it has
bring about is undertaken and the educational consequences of neoliberal economy politics is
discussed from a critical point of view. In the last chapter of the study, innovations and new
possibilities in pedagogy offered by globalization is evaluated and the possible contributions
of pedagogues to the new orientations in educational policies is discussed.
