The Effects of Cooperative Learning on 8th Grade Primary School Students’ Problem Solving Skills

Abstract

The study investigated the effects of cooperative learning on students’ problem solving skills. Seventy-four grade 8 students participated in the study. Cooperative learning
method was used in this study so as to ensure students’ problem solving skills. The students selected as control and experiment group have done the activities prepared by the
researcher and studies have been applied. The units of “Genetic” and “reproduction and development of organisms” have been taught with lesson plan prepared by the researcher
by using traditional method to the students of control group, on the other hand, the same units have been taught by the cooperative learning method prepared by the researcher to
experiment group. Inventory of problem-solving skills have been applied to both groups pretest and posttest. The results show that the experimental groups students’ problem
solving skills was increased. For group in expected level and a remarkable difference has occurred compared to control group. Experiment group has improved its problem-solving
skills as required in terms of problem-solving skills, on the other hand, no change has been seen in control group.

İLKÖĞRETİM SEKİZİNCİ SINIF FEN BİLGİSİ DERSİNDE İŞBİRLİKÇİ ÖĞRENME YÖNTEMİNİN KULLANILMASININ ÖĞRENCİLERİN PROBLEM ÇÖZME BECERİLERİNE ETKİSİ

Abstract

Çalışmanın amacı ilköğretim sekizinci sınıf fen bilgisi dersinde işbirlikli öğrenme yönteminin öğrencilerin problem çözme becerilerine etkisinin incelenmesidir. Problem çözme becerisi gelişmemiş olan toplumlarda ekonomik, sosyal ve kültürel gelişme de çok yavaş olmaktadır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, ilköğretim 8. sınıfa devam eden 74 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Öntest-sontest kontrol gruplu deneme modeli kullanılarak gerçekleştirilen araştırmada, kontrol ve deney grubu olarak seçilen öğrencilere araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan etkinlikler yaptırılmış ve anketler uygulanmıştır. Kontrol grubundaki öğrencilere “Genetik” ve “Canlılarda Üreme ve Gelişme” ünitelerinin öğretimi araştırmacı tarafından geleneksel yönteme uygun olarak hazırlanan ders planı üzerinden gerçekleştirilmiştir. Deney grubuna ise aynı üniteler yine araştırmacı tarafından işbirlikli öğrenme yöntemine uygun olarak hazırlanan ders planlan üzerinden yapılmıştır. Uygulamaların öncesi ve sonrasında problem çözme becerilerinin gelişimi ve değişiminin incelenmesi amacıyla her iki gruba da Problem Çözme Becerileri Envanteri uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler SPSS 12 programı kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre deney grubundaki öğrencilerin problem çözme becerileri kontrol grubundaki öğrencilere göre .05 manidarlık düzeyinde anlamlı miktarda artmıştır. Problem çözme becerileri açısından deney grubu öngörüldüğü gibi problem çözme becerilerini artırmış, kontrol grubunda ise herhangi bir değişim görülmemiştir.
